Art shows can be about art, artists, or just a big/fat party.
In this case, it feels like a party for the artists. Over 50 artists in all, all works created for the show -- the only link? Unicorns.
My opinion, unicorns are a great symbol --religious/cultural/historical/anthropological-- yet so fantastical, no one really cares or takes insult how it is portrayed. It's meaning can be as much the imagination of society, and its portrayal can be all left to the imagination of the artist.
We're about to show over 50 ideological representations of what all these local artists think. I can't wait

A year in art, not all of it working on art...
I've produced all of 10 pieces of art in a year's worth of time. That's it. That's all there is to show...
What I can't show:
--further work and development at our print studio cooperative, formerly LegUp Studio, now renamed North Star Print. We've cleaned out more space, developed more gallery space, built more drying racks and replaced several pieces of equipment. I cant take much credit for all this - two other incredible women have been working out the legal and paperwork, and building relationships with local groups and a paper-making business. Soon, this year, we will become a fully licensed LLC and begin working on grant applications.
I'm still working...
...but it had occurred to me to allow this DA account to die.
Then Facebook made operating an art page nearly impossible to do without dumping money into an add system that cannot recognize the difference between individual creatives working self promotion versus small businesses.
So that account is dead, and this one is limping along, and I'm doing what I can dig out time and resources for a website/sales-site. (No suggestions, please. I already got plenty local colleagues that can help me with their expertise.)

...in fact, do not do 'contests'.
In a networking group of online artists and fans, it is incredible to think this kind of thing has to even be said. I can only assume people who still do it realize it is a terrible form of taking advantage of "hungry"(desperate) artists -- which I am most certainly NOT -- and simply do not care how unethical it is. The insult on many levels is apparent.
