Desktop 1680 x 1050. I have no idea what these beetles were eating, but it was apparently so good for them that they didn't mind a digital camera in their faces.

Haha. Those actually ARE all ladybugs, just different varieties. They look like Harmonia axyridis, Asian multicoloured ladybugs (~glowcat was sort-of correct -- they're also called Harlequin ladybirds; he/she just linked to a site about the wrong species of insect with a similar name).

Unlike your standard variety of ladybug beetle, the Asian multicoloureds are quite "dumb", and more pests than anything else. We've got a lot of them here, unfortunately. ): They're known for moving into houses, especially in the autumn, and living off things in there, instead of cleaning up the garden pests.

correct :)

These things are still coating the windows of our establishments where I live. I don't know why the cold hasn't killed them.

LOL. Although I think these are harlequin bugs actually, not ladybugs :)

Don't be fooled -- not all of those beetles are ladybugs. Some of them are the knock-offs that are so stupid they bite everything they land on to see if it's food or not :P
