Artist's Comments

I'm fascinated by the aspect of people seeking individuality for themselves by conforming their fantasies to selected communities. Thanks to the internet, video-games, and the aspect of Dungeons and Dragons (and all it has grown into) -- the days of living alone in your head seem to be fading out...

Maybe we're desperate to drag others into our imaginations. Maybe the worlds that others have created are far better than some could imagine. Or maybe some are just seeking a place to master their destinies after finding themselves in a reality where they cannot do the same. I don't know, and I don't judge -- it's just interesting.

Full disclosure again -- I don't speak Russian. I had help with the translation, and then had to hand render the text using the font 'EastBlock'. Hopefully, it's still correct, but if it is not -- please let me know what is out of place.

Poster reads...
Conformity: everyone will like you while you hate yourself
Be a nonconformist like everyone else
Freedom is choice.
Your choices for a community are limited
Remember: fashionable nonconformity is more cowardly than conformity
CONFORM

Dungeons and Dragons? What? I love DnD!

Life is a series of natural and spontaneous changes. Don't resist them - that only creates sorrow. Let reality be reality. Let things flow naturally forward in whatever way they like.

I didn't say it was a bad thing. Continue to love it if you like. But maybe reflect on it too while you're at it.

Interesting!

One aspect of many fandoms is the creation of a character. The message to the participants: create a facade that is your ideal self and hide behind it, rather than working to improve (or simply appreciate) yourself.

Be an individual on paper, but a stereotype in reality.

Sounds like basic psychology; everybody is hard-wired to behave like their social groups.

Heck, scientists in the 1950's once found out that people will say that a 3-inch rod is longer than a 7-inch rod when everybody else in the class says the same thing.

I've fallen into this once, but soon realized that it wasn't for me. Having seen both sides, I have an appreciation for this work that I'm extremely glad to have. Love your style.

I don't want to 'kill' the people I hate.
I just want them to die on their own.

Personal input/opinion on the something you mentioned in the description, regarding the GENERAL emergence of communal creativity. It is simply different from isolated imagination. Though my own personal fantasies/creations are something I love, the 'communal fantasy' of RPG (the more flexible systems, not as rigid as D&D) presents a new aspect where other individual's imaginations mix with, contribute to and, particularly, CHALLENGE my own in an enjoyable social setting which encourages, rather than discourages, its development. It's actually a pretty admirable and enjoyable social phenomenon.

Even though, like everything else, trust in moderation and expect unfortunate exceptions to a positive rule, which will always recieve stronger representation on the internet than the overaching positive effect.

That said, I fully agree with the general statement and the image is striking, beautifully vectored and I appreciate the decision to use Russian; it certainly adds impact. Awesome :)
